Description

Flaky, fun, and frighteningly easy to make, these mummy hot dogs with puff pastry are a Halloween favorite in our kitchen. Wrapped like bandages and peeking out with candy eyes, they’re crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and the life of any spooky gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 68 hot dogs (beef, turkey, or plant-based)
  • Candy eyes or yellow mustard for decoration
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash – optional)
  • Optional: sliced cheddar or mozzarella cheese for stuffing

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unfold puff pastry and slice into ¼-inch thin strips using a pizza cutter or knife.
  3. (Optional) Place a cheese strip on each hot dog.
  4. Wrap each hot dog loosely with 2–3 pastry strips, leaving a gap for eyes.
  5. Place on baking sheet. Brush with egg wash if using.
  6. Bake for 18–20 minutes or until golden and puffed.
  7. Add candy eyes or mustard dots once slightly cooled.
  8. Serve warm with ketchup, mustard, or spooky dips of choice.

Notes

Keep pastry cold while working to avoid stickiness.

Cocktail hot dogs can be used for mini mummies (bake 2–3 minutes less).

Freeze unbaked mummies and bake from frozen with extra time.

Great for prepping ahead and reheating just before serving.
