Description

Bog Witch Berries are a spooky Halloween treat made with cranberries, blackberries, and warm spices simmered into a thick, dark syrup. This rich berry compote works perfectly as a dessert topping or festive drink addition.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 cup blackberries
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 star anise
  • 2–3 whole cloves
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Add cranberries, blackberries, sugar, and water to a medium pot.
  2. Place over medium heat and stir gently as the mixture warms.
  3. Add cinnamon stick, star anise, and cloves.
  4. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 10–15 minutes.
  5. Stir occasionally while the berries soften and release juices.
  6. Continue simmering until the syrup thickens slightly.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving or storing.
